Gully Ka King
Gully Ka King

Time it. Hit it. Own the gully.

Street cricket the way it's really played: houses for boundaries, a window that gets you out, and the whole mohalla watching from the balconies.

The batter, seen from behind, at guard

How it plays

Two thumbs. One ball.

Every ball is a little puzzle you solve in under a second: where is it going, when does it arrive, and where are the gaps?

  1. 1

    Read the bowler

Pace changes ball to ball, and the slower one hides behind a fast run-up.FastSlower ballSpinSwingYorkerBouncer

  2. 2

    Get in line

Your left thumb slides the batter across the crease. Get the middle of the bat in line with the ball, or it's an edge, or worse, the stumps.

    Tap where it goes

As the ball arrives, your right thumb taps the HIT pad. Where you tap is where it goes; the top band lofts it. Drive the full ones, pull and cut the short ones.

Timing is everything

A ring shrinks onto the ball and turns green at the perfect moment. Early pulls it to the leg side, late pushes it to the off side. Turn the ring and the line guide off in Settings once you can read the ball yourself.

Three gullies · 80 chases

From Delhi to Jaipur

Every level is a chase: a target, a few balls and a wicket or two. Win it, keep every wicket and finish with a ball to spare for all three stars.

Levels 1–40Timing & gaps

Delhi Gully

Where every king starts

Learn to read the line, time the tap and find the gap between cover and mid-off. Medium pace and the odd slower ball.

Delhi Gully: the batter lifts the bat as the fast bowler leaps into his delivery, fielders crouched ready, neighbours on the balconies
Levels 41–60Spin & swing

Mumbai Chawl

Read the turn

Spinners turn it, swing bowlers bend it, and one tip one hand means a catch off the wall still gets you out.

Mumbai Chawl: a pink ball arrives inside the shrinking timing ring while the batter waits in his backlift and the whole field crouches
Levels 61–80Pace & bouncers

Jaipur Bazaar

Face the fast ones

Real pace. Yorkers at your toes, bouncers at your helmet, and a field set to catch anything you loft too early.

Jaipur Bazaar: the batter takes guard in a pink sandstone lane, fielders spread through the bazaar, chalk fours and sixes on the walls

Chalked on every wall

Gully rules

  • 4

    Any wall, along the ground

Beat the field to a house wall and it's four.

  • 6

The far house, on the full

Clear the whole street and hit the house at the bowler's end.

  • OUT

    Glass means danger

Hit a window on the full and you're out (and in trouble).

  • OUT

    Lost ball

Loft it out of the gully down a side lane and nobody's fetching it.

  • OUT

    One tip, one hand

Caught one-handed after one bounce off a wall? Still out.

  • OUT

    Bowled

Miss a straight one and the stumps go flying.
